EDUCATION - BFA Maine College of Art 1985

“I have been painting for over 30 years since receiving my BFA in 1985. There have been many teachers, influences and experiences that have informed the way that I paint both in subject matter and style. 

My early work after my Art education was primarily abstract. I’ve flowed in and out between realism and abstraction like waves ever since. Most of my current work is heavily influenced by my gardens. During the stillness of Covid, I started a series of intensely quiet and introspective, almost academic “gardenscapes “. The restrictions and seclusion of that time were reflected in my work and I found a real freedom and beauty in those restrictions. Recently I’ve been experimenting with textural drips and scrapes to add texture and really “find” the painting. But still garden focused.

If nature is my muse, then color is my obsession.”
